What challenges lie ahead for Mahisoft after becoming a Great Place to Work©? Certainly, being certified as a Great Place to Work© carries over responsibility within the organization, but also with our business partners and our products. As we grow as a company, recruiting the best available talent becomes a need, and now we have a new way to tell these people that Mahisoft may be the opportunity they are looking for in their professional development.

The deficit of specialized talent in software development affects companies in many different ways. For example, the shortage of software developers has operational implications that affect budgets and hiring timelines. According to a 2019 study, hiring talent for technology roles takes 50% longer than for other positions. The study also shows that it takes, on average, 66 days to find the right person to be recruited for a technical job. And trends suggest that the numbers are only going up since the pandemic.

Also, in a post-pandemic world where the home office is becoming more and more accepted, Mahisoft brings over a decade of experience working in remote environments. So much so that more than half of the people interviewed for this piece described it as “a great work environment,” even without having to look at each other’s eyes. Now, there is a public debate over the effectiveness of remote work. Still, the truth is that Mahisoft’s experience put the company over the hump, as it has already discussed the issue and adapted accordingly. “I don’t know how else to tell you this, but in Mahisoft, we have a great working relationship between offices and between people. It’s just great,” says Ian Goldberg, a Junior Software Engineer at Mahisoft since 2020.

People at the center

“One of our main focuses is human resources. Our CEO has made clear that Mahisoft’s growth is about finding the right people for the right position. And after recruiting, our task is to make sure we have the best working environment, based on our principles of Responsible Freedom and Radical Truth/Radical Transparency,” explains Graciela Vivenzio, who has worked at Mahisoft since 2016 and was recently appointed as the new head of the Human Resources Department.

In a previous interview, her predecessor, Emily Moreau, explained how the talent pool had evolved first to find new skills and then to enrich different cultures within the same working experience. Mahisoft recently expanded its talent pool from Spanish-speaking Latin America to Brazil, only to find out that a possible language barrier was easy to overcome. The benefits of recruiting in a brand-new market were a spark the company needed to refresh ideas and solutions for an expanding base of clients.

Ensuring the company’s growth runs parallel to recruiting the right talent is at the center of Vivenzio’s agenda for the short term. “And then we have to make sure to integrate them with our organizational values. For some of them, it is a shock to come to such an open company, where their voices and opinions are respected and taken into account. We need to make sure it keeps happening,” she explains.

What’s ahead?

With a software market rapidly expanding and technology making quantum leaps, the future for Mahisoft looks bright. As we bring quality solutions to our clients, we also extend our recruiting to seek the best talents in new technology trends. We are prepared for the challenges ahead as our experience with remote work put us in a privileged place of a new corporate culture worldwide, without the limitations of physical space and with Responsible Freedom as a cornerstone of an environment whit life-work balance at the center, benefiting from the personal and professional evolution of every single member of the organization.
